Keeping in view the experience and expertise in the field of criminal law of the Hon’ble Mr. Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik, former Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Punjab Judicial Academy after getting approval from the Hon’ble Chief Justice, Lahore High Court, Lahore / Chairperson, Board of Management, PJA made request to his Lordship Mr. Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik for sharing his knowledge and expertise with the judicial officers (District & Sessions Judges, Additional District & Sessions Judges and Civil Judges-cum-Magistrates) on the topic of criminal trial. The Hon’ble Mr. Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik graciously accepted this request of PJA and delivered lectures at divisional headquarters of the Punjab and his last lecture on the above referred topic was delivered on 11.06.2024 to the learned judicial officers (District & Sessions Judges, Additional District & Sessions Judges and Civil Judges-cum-Magistrates) of Lahore Division in the auditorium of Punjab Judicial Academy.
His Lordship Mr. Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik, former Judge of August Supreme Court of Pakistan was the guest speaker. On arrival of the Chief Guest, he was warmly welcomed by the Hon’ble Mr. Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, Chief Justice, Lahore High Court, Lahore, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, Senior Puisne Judge, Lahore High Court, Lahore, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Amjad Rafiq, Judge, Lahore High Court, Lahore, Mr. Abdul Sattar, Director General, PJA and the District & Sessions Judges of Lahore Division.
The program started with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool (S.A.W.). The representative of District Judiciary, Lahore conducted the proceedings of the event as Stage Secretary. Syed Nasir Ali Shah, District & Sessions Judge (Rtd.) in his introductory remarks highlighted the life long achievements of the Hon’ble Chief Guest during his professional and judicial career. Thereafter, the proceedings of lecture started. The Hon’ble Guest Speaker discussed the salient features of the Criminal Justice System in Pakistan. He highlighted the requirements of law regarding a fair trial. He emphasized upon the judges to work hard and to record the evidence of the parties in the trial strictly in accordance with law. He expounded various theories & principles for consideration of judges for successful running of administration of justice during the course of trial as well as at the time of final verdict to be given by them in a criminal trial. He sensitized the judges that their judgments in criminal trial, should be lucid, concise and precise but comprehensive.
At the end, Mr. Syed Ali Imran, District & Sessions Judge, Lahore representing the District Judiciary of Lahore Division extended vote of thanks to the Hon’ble Guest Speaker for conducting interactive session. Later, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, Chief Justice, Lahore High Court, Lahore and Director General, PJA presented souvenirs to the Guest Speaker, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, Senior Puisne Judge, Lahore High Court, Lahore and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Amjad Rafique, Judge, Lahore High Court, Lahore and Syed Nasir Ali Shah, District & Sessions Judge (Rtd.).
In the end, the judges of the Lahore Division presented souvenirs to the Hon’ble Mr. Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, Chief Justice, Lahore High Court, Lahore. Finally, a group photo was taken. The session ended at 04:30 p.m. with refreshment / high-tea. For pictures, please click here.
