On May 25, 2024, the Punjab Judicial Academy hosted a lecture titled “Beyond the Court Room – Exploring Alternative Avenues for Dispute Resolution” for participants of the Pre-Service Training Program – 2024, which included newly appointed Additional District & Sessions Judges and Civil Judges cum Magistrates. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Jawad Hassan, Judge, Lahore High Court, Lahore, delivered the lecture. The event was attended by Mr. Abdul Sattar, Director General, Punjab Judicial Academy; Mr. Mansoor Ahmad Khan, Director Program / Academics PJA; Advocate General Punjab Mr. Khalid Ishaq; Mr. Abid Hussain Advocate and Dr. Ali Mohsin Qazalbash.
In this interactive session, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Jawad Hassan underscored the necessity of adopting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods. He highlighted that ADR is essential for reducing the courts' caseload and fostering confidence among entrepreneurs, the business community and the general public in the judicial system. He stressed the importance of integrating ADR mechanisms, such as mediation, conciliation, and arbitration, into the litigation process to help litigants avoid prolonged litigation. His lordship also referenced recent judgments by himself and other superior court judges to illustrate the potential of ADR in court-based litigation.
