Mobile Training Sessions on Implementation of Legal Framework of Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) in District Lahore

With the approval of Hon’ble Chief Justice Lahore High Court/ Chairperson BoM, Punjab Judicial Academy, Lahore, the Academy has conducted four Mobile Training Sessions on Implementation of Legal Framework of Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) in District Lahore at the premises of Sessions Courts, Lahore, from 09th February to 02nd March, 2023.

In the opening remarks, Mr. Tariq Iftikhar Ahmad, Director Training (Distance Learning) PJA, gave an overview of the objectives of the said Training Sessions and emphasized the participants to take full advantage of the sessions as the Alternate Dispute Resolution Act, 2019 (ADR Act, 2019) and Alternate Dispute Resolution Rules, 2020 have been implemented to the extent of District Lahore and these training sessions can help the Judges to understand this law in a befitting manner. 

The Mobile training sessions inaugurated with the opening topic “Understanding the concept of Accredited ADR Service Provider and ADR Center under Alternate Dispute Resolution Act, 2019 (ADR Act, 2019) and Alternate Dispute Resolution Rules, 2020”, conducted by Mr. Tariq Iftikhar Ahmad, Director Training (Distance Learning) PJA. He highlighted the core concept behind Accredited ADR Service Providers and ADR Centers introduced in ADR Act, 2019.

Second session was conducted on Thursday, 16th February, 2023, on the topic “How to Successfully Implement ADR Act, 2019 in Lahore – Role of Courts and other Stakeholders” by Ms. Mahnoor Kazmi, Legal Consultant. The learned resource person discussed the challenges and role of courts in implementation of newly enacted ADR Act, 2019, to the extent of District Lahore. 

On Thursday, 23rd February, 2023, Mr. Mehboob-e-Elahi Bhatti, Barrister-at-Law, conducted a session on the topics “Alternate Dispute Resolution: Basic Concept and Concept of Outside Court Settlement in other Countries”. Mr. Bhatti gave an overview of the concept of ADR and how other countries of the world are practicing Alternate Dispute Resolution as a tool to settle disputes without intervention of the Courts. 

Mr. Tariq Iftikhar Ahmad, Director Training (Distance Learning) PJA, on Thursday, 02nd March, 2023, conducted the last session on the topic “Referring Civil & Criminal Disputes for ADR under the ADR Act, 2019: Problems and Solutions”. The participants were sensitized on how to refer cases of civil and criminal nature to ADR Service Providers and ADR Centers under the ADR Act, 2019, what problems courts can face while implementing ADR Act, 2019 and how to resolve them.

The participants were Additional District & Sessions Judges, Senior Civil Judges and Civil Judges. At the end of each session, detailed Questions & Answers sessions took place wherein the participant Judges fully participated and asked questions/queries from the learned resource persons to clear the concept of the subject. Learned resource persons appreciated the focus and active engagement of the participants.

On conclusion of the Mobile Training Sessions, Mr. Tariq Iftikhar Ahmad, Director Training (Distance Learning) PJA, thanked the District & Sessions Judge, Lahore, for making arrangements and facilitate the Punjab Judicial Academy to conduct the said Training Sessions and meaningful participation. All the participants all pay thanks to the learned resource persons and the Academy for conducting interactive and fruitful sessions.
